On May 9 the PlayStation Plus Collection will no longer be offered. We also wanted to provide an update on the PlayStation Plus Collection that has been offered as a benefit to PlayStation Plus members on PS5 since 2020. That means that subscribers have until that date to claim any of the included titles that they want to play, which will then remain available on their account even after the cut-off date as long as their Plus subscription is active. Presumably due to the introduction of the Extra and Deluxe tiers with hundreds of games included and a much bigger library available on the PS5 since launch, Sony has made the decision to axe the Collection altogether, on May 9th.
The PS Plus Collection originally contained around 20 games that could be downloaded and played as long as any form of PS Plus subscription remained active, much like the monthly games users get now. Tucked away in the blog post making that announcement though, the company also quietly spelled the end of the PlayStation Plus collection – a perk it introduced for subscribers at the launch of the PS5 to help build out an instant library of back catalogue classics on the new console. PlayStation made the official announcement of the PlayStation Plus Essential line-up for February, confirming what games subscribers to the entry-level tier will be able to claim and download for the month. PlayStation Plus members who own a PS5 also get free access to the 2018 God of War, which normally costs $20 the game is also included with a PlayStation Plus Extra membership for PS4 owners.Update: As a timely reminder, the below is going into effect next Tuesday, May 9th – meaning that (depending on when you’re reading this) you’ve got a week or less to claim any of the PlayStation Plus Collection games before they’re taken away! God of War 3 was remastered for PlayStation 4 as well, and is included in the classics catalog for PlayStation Plus Premium members. Those four games aren't available digitally at the moment, but if you still own a PS3 you can purchase the God of War Saga for $37.50, which also includes the PS3 version of God of War 3. The first two God of War games were remastered for PlayStation 3, along with God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta, which were originally released on PlayStation Portable (PSP). There are eight games in the God of War franchise, including six entries in the main series and two spinoffs. What other God of War games are available? Sony confirmed the news in a post-show interview after its September 2021 game showcase.
